Perth for Europe at Labour Party Conference, 26th February 2017, Perth

We played our EU Anthem "Ode to Joy" in the pouring rain outside the Labour Party conference in Perth during the visit of Jeremy Corbyn.  We did not get to speak to Jeremy but we did get the chance to speak to a few of the delegates as well as passing members of the public. A local councillor from Perth joined us as well - from the area where I used to live in Perth !  We had generally positive comments although one friend was heckled and told to "Go Back to Germany" even though she was born in London ! Her grandfather had fled the Nazis ! She has been very lucky to now be able to get German citizenship.  However one of the other protestors was a German woman who originally came to the UK 20+ years ago. She has worked in the NHS since then. She married a British man and never needed to apply for UK citizenship. In fact until 2008 she said she was not allowed to anyway as an EU citizen. She was telling me about the mountains of forms she is filling out and how she is studying all these various mountains of British and Scottish History, Culture and Geography etc to pass the series of tests they have to take. It was also costing quite a lot as well. There was a larger crowd than is shown in the photograph.  The photograph shows those of us who lasted over 2 hours !!  Thankfully someone sent out coffee from the Concert Hall - so thank you to whoever that was, whether it was a delegate (as I suspect !) or the Concert Hall themselves !! A kind gesture !
